Awaroa Melba Peach Waiheke Island Syrah

 

 

2015 vintage (5*) is a concentrated, finely textured Waiheke Island red. Well worth cellaring, it has rich blackberry, spice, liquorice and toasty oak flavours, fine-grained tannins, and excellent balance and length. (2020 MC guide)

2014 vintage (5*) Dark and dense, the powerful 2014 vintage is still very youthful. Matured for a year in French oak barriques (50 per cent new), it has highly concentrated, ripe plum and black-pepper flavours, woven with fresh acidity, and a tightly structured, long, spicy finish. In a vertical tasting held in September 2016, the

2013 vintage (5*) is a highly fragrant, deeply coloured red. 'Serious', but delicious, with lovely weight and depth of plum and spice flavours, youthful and persistent, it should be long-lived.

Awaroa Requiem Waiheke Island Cabernet/Merlot/Malbec.

2016 vintage (5*) is a powerful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50 per cent), Merlot (30 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (20 per cent), matured in French oak barriques (70 per cent new). Dark and fragrant, it is mouthfilling, with deep, youthful blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, savoury, nutty notes adding complexity, and supple tannins. It's already quite expressive; drink now or cellar. (MC wine guide 2020)

2015 vintage (5*) The fragrant, full-coloured 2015 vintage is a classy blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60 per cent), Merlot (25 per cent) and Malbec (15 per cent), estate-grown, hand-picked and matured in French oak barriques (100 per cent new). Dark, concentrated and sweet-fruited, it has very generous blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, fine-grained tannins, and obvious cellaring potential; best drinking 2020+.

2014 vintage (5*)  The fragrant, dark, youthful 2014 vintage is a classy blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70 per cent), Merlot (20 per cent) and Malbec (10 per cent), estate-grown, hand-picked and matured in French oak barriques (50 per cent new). Fragrant and sweet-fruited, it has generous, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, supple tannins and obvious potential. Rich and finely textured, it's instantly appealing.

013 vintage (4.5*) is a full-coloured, generous, brambly blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65 per cent), Merlot (25 per cent) and Malbec (10 per cent). Hand-picked and matured in French oak barriques, it is deeply coloured and very powerful (14.5 per cent alcohol), with concentrated blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, a slightly herbal streak, and good tannin backbone. Best drinking 2017+.

2010 vintage (5*). The densely coloured 2010 vintage (5*) has real power through the palate. Strapping (14.5 per cent alcohol), with ripe blackcurrant, nut and liquorice flavours, braced by firm tannins, it is a highly concentrated, spicy, structured red, likely to be long-lived.

 

 

 

 

 

Awaroa The Dan Syrah/Cabernet/Malbec. 

2014 vintage (5*)  Deeply coloured and fragrant, the 2014 vintage (5*) is Awaroa's first reserve blend of Syrah (65 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (23 per cent), with a splash of Malbec (12 per cent). Matured in all-new French oak barriques, it is powerful, with concentrated, ripe plum, blackcurrant and spice flavours, and fine, silky tannins. Currently delicious.

 

2015 vintage (4.5*) Matured for a year in all-new French oak barriques, the 2015 vintage is robust (14.8 per cent alcohol) and sweet-fruited, with concentrated blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, oak complexity and a finely textured finish.

 

 

Awaroa Waiheke Island Syrah. Over all vintages



2016 vintage (5*) Delicious now but also well worth cellaring, the dark, sturdy 2016 vintage (5*) was hand-picked and matured for a year in French oak barriques. It has concentrated plum and black-pepper flavours, with a hint of liquorice. Fragrant and spicy, it has slightly earthy notes adding complexity and a long, structured finish.

2015 vintage (3.5*) The full-coloured 2015 vintage is a medium to full-bodied red with fresh, plummy, spicy flavours, hints of tamarillos, olives and herbs, a gentle seasoning of toasty oak, fine-grained tannins and a very smooth finish.

2014 vintage (4.5*) The very harmonious 2014 vintage (4.5*) was hand-picked and matured for a year in seasoned French oak barriques. Full-coloured, with a fragrant, clearly varietal bouquet, it is mouthfilling, ripe and smooth, with strong plum/spice flavours, a hint of dark chocolate, and a long, well-rounded finish. Best drinking 2018+.

2013 vintage (4*)  Fragrant and deeply coloured, the 2013 vintage has good weight and ripe plum and black-pepper flavours, rich and smooth. It's a youthful, strongly varietal style that lingers well.

2012 vintage (4*). Full-coloured and floral, the 2012 vintage (4*) has concentrated, peppery, slightly herbal flavours, finely balanced tannins and a lingering finish.

2016 vintage (4.5*). The fragrant, fleshy 2016 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50 per cent), Merlot (30 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (20 per cent), matured in French oak barriques. Deep and youthful in colour, it is full-bodied, with strong blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent ripeness and complexity, and a firm tannin grip. Best drinking 2022+.

2015 vintage (3.5*) The full-coloured 2015 vintage is a medium to full-bodied red with fresh, plummy, spicy flavours, hints of tamarillos, olives and herbs, a gentle seasoning of toasty oak, fine-grained tannins and a very smooth finish.

2014 vintage (4*).  The dark 2014 vintage was hand-picked on Waiheke Island and matured for a year in seasoned French oak barriques. The bouquet is fresh and fragrant; the palate is mouthfilling, with generous, ripe blackcurrant, plum, herb and spice flavours, showing good density and complexity.

2011 vintage (3*) Grown on Waiheke Island, the 2011 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70 per cent), Merlot (20 per cent) and Malbec (10 per cent). A mid-weight style, with fullish, slightly developed colour, it is savoury, with blackcurrant and spice flavours, showing a distinctly herbal thread.

2008 vintage (4*)  Grown on Waiheke Island, the 2008 vintage (4*) is drinking well now. Savoury and spicy, with good tannin support, it is full-coloured and ripe-tasting, with very satisfying depth and complexity
