Awaroa Reserve Wines

Requiem ( Bordeaux) - Intense fruit concentration, a powerful wine. Easily handles 50% new French Oak. Blackcurrant with mint and tobacco on the nose. Layers of ripe dark fruit, tobacco and chocolate. Tanins probably warrant 4-5 years, but 2 years after bottling is still a great drinking experience. This is a very complex wine with a long lingering finish.

Melba Peach (Syrah) - Contact us to be placed on our waiting list for this great Syrah. Melba Peach is sold out before release every year, and regularly scores 5 stars. You can taste it in the barrel in advance of bottling and order at a discount to (what would be) normal retail.

The Dan (Cabernet / Syrah) - A blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon The Dan is a surprising wine. Although well known in Australia this blend is not common in New Zealand, although we think this will change. The dominant impression is of a powerful mouth filling wine with the tobacco and berry fruit characteristics of a cabernet balanced with syrah mouth feel, with maraschino / liquorice flavours. We are learning more about this blend every year..


Awaroa Estate

Syrah - A full bodied wine with complex aromas of pepper, creaming soda, vanilla and dark plum.  "The top two Syrah producers on Waiheke at this moment are Passage Rock, already with several gold medals for their reserve wine, and the very small Awaroa winnery."  Geoff Kelly. 

Bordeaux Blend - (Merlot/Cabernet/Malbec) - dark brooding wine.  Plum, dark berries, tobacco and coffee notes on the nose.

Merlot - Similar to some of the better Chiantis (yes, sangiovese...) Savoury and earthy, it is a lovely food wine.


Waiheke Road

Chardonnay (Gisborne) - A complex aroma with apricot, white peach, buttescotch, almond and toasty French oak notes. 

Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough) - Delicate aromas of passion fruit, crushed lime leaf and grapefruit are met on the palate with notes of crushed blackcurrant bud, tarragon and mint.
